How to cut a hair sample

Wash the hair properly before cutting the sample with regular shampoo do not use dandruff shampoo or any other type of shampoo.

Do not put any hair products on your hair before cutting the sample, like using leave in conditioner, hair gel, hair spray, or dandruff shampoo.

If you regularly use dandruff shampoo, wash your hair at least three times with regular shampoo before sampling. This process can happen in days apart as long as the washing is consecutive.

When you wash your hair before cutting you should use spring water or another unsoftened water. Do not allow softened water to get on your hair, between, during or after the washing.

If you have dye, highlights, bleach or perm on your hair, take the sample before any of these treatments or if you want to take the sample after the treatment, then you should wash your hair at least six times or more after the treatment and then take the sample.

After washing the hair then you should wait for at least four hours to cut the sample and not more than 24 hours.

Avoid any activity that will cause you to sweat excessively, before cutting your sample as sweat might affect the results of the hair mineral analysis.

The hair needs to be dry when sampling, so avoid putting wet hair in hats, ponytail or any other style that will prevent the hair from drying by the time the sample is taken.

Avoid sending samples of hair that are oily.

How to cut a hair sample Step 3

When cutting the hair the sample should be taken using clean scissors. Cut the hair as close to the scalp as possible. Do not use electric razors to cut the hair because pieces of metal from the blades might mix with the sample of the hair. We recommend the back of the head as if often grows faster.

Keep track of which end of the cut hair is from the scalp because the most important part for the hair analysis is the part that was directly against the scalp. The hair furthest from the scalp is the oldest, therefore, it is not accurate for your current body chemistry. To get the hair required, simply cut and discard the unwanted ends of the hair until you have about five centimeters or a bit less that was closest to the scalp.
